Looking for sex in Athens?

Known as the cradle of western civilisation, Athens is home to just 665,000 people. By European standards, it is a small capital city but attracts a lot of tourism. The country is one of the most visited destinations in the world and more than 28 million people stayed in Greece in 2016. As well as offering a stunning collection of islands, beaches and mountains the country has plenty of culture to offer up as an attraction. In addition to the Acropolis, the Parthenon and the Athenian temples, there is plenty of modern entertainment in Athens….and some of a more adult nature.

In this guide, we find out about the city’s swinging community, sex shops and what the prostitution laws are like in Greece.

Prostitution in Athens

Prostitution in Greece is fully legalised and regulated. As a result, Athens has a large number of state registered, studio-style brothels where you can pay for sex. In addition, you can also pay for full service at erotic massage parlours.

The law on prostitution is a little restrictive and means that only unmarried women who are in good health (mental/physical) may register as a prostitute. They must also have the right to live and work in Greece.

As a result of these laws it is estimated that only around 1000 women are officially registered to provide sex for money in Greece. A further 20,000 are thought to be working as illegal prostitutes. This is a mix of married Greek women, migrants and anyone who has failed to qualify for their sex worker’s permit on other grounds.

Licensed prostitutes must have a health check every two weeks and their medical ID card must be updated with this information.

There are hundreds of brothels in Athens, some are legal and some are not. They range from fairly modern venues with a good choice of women to some distinctly seedy establishments. Prices vary accordingly but you can expect to pay €40 to €60 for the services of a licensed sex worker in comfortable, hygienic surroundings. The cheap brothels will provide service from as low €20.

Street prostitution in Athens is quite common though soliciting is not legal.

Women who work on the streets of Athens are generally migrants and come from Africa, Albania and Russia as well as other European countries.

The brothels also have a mix of nationalities available and customers can usually expect to pay a premium for sex with a Greek girl.

As with most European capitals, the city is well served by escorts typically charging between €80 and €120 per hour for an out-call service to hotels.

Athens Escorts Guide

Athens has a lot of escorts providing full service to hotels and private residences in the city. They vary in price depending on age, nationality and looks but the average cost of an escort is around €100 per hour; many will provide an overnight stay for approximately €350.

Due to the unclear legal status of many of these agencies (and whether they are licensed), we cannot list them on this site.

Sex in Athens

For such a compact city, Athens has a huge number of adult entertainment venues. As well as the licensed brothels offering sex at low prices, there are also plenty of strip clubs, massage parlours and even some swinging clubs.

Brothels (Studios)

Brothels are legal in Greece as long as they are state licensed and the women who work in them carry the relevant permits. These are known as ‘studios’ and are distinct from ‘brothels’ that are often unlicensed.

There are more women providing sex for sale than there are legal venues and you can find hundreds of small brothels throughout Athens which do not carry a license.

Illegal brothels tend to be in pretty run-down areas of the city and are in cheaply-let buildings. Prices are much lower but the facilities are often of a poor quality. Sometimes there are showers but, more often than not, many just have a basic sink.

There are two main areas of the city which are notorious for brothels; the Fylis Street area and the area around the Metaxourghio metro station. The latter has the cheaper end of the market and is more popular with locals than tourists. However, it is the area around Fylis Street which is seen as the ‘seedier’ side of the city.

Licensed studios are a different matter and offer a more typical brothel experience with a good selection of girls, clean rooms and modern facilities. The style and price of these venues varies depending on the quality of the bordello and the girls themselves. When you pay for sex in a licensed studio, your session is less hurried and you can usually get a massage as well as enjoying a more laid-back GFE.

Studios can be distinguished from brothels by their distinctive red lanterns whilst the unlicensed venues have white lanterns/lights.

Sex in a licensed studio will cost from €50 to €100 depending on the kind of service you request.

Most are open during the day as well as late at night and offer a standard range of services as well as some that specialise in BDSM and roleplay.

The following studios are fully licensed and legal to use:

  • Studio Liforos, 296 Syggrou Avenue, Athens
  • Kassandra’s Studio 1, Kassandras 8, Athens 104 47
  • Studio Desire, Thisseos 40, Kallithea 176 76
  • Studio Illusion, Krokeon 6, Athens 104 42
  • Studio Caroline, Katechaki 5, Athens 115 25
  • Studio de Paris, Athinon 204, Athens 104 42
  • Liosia 73A, Liosion 73, Athens 104 40
  • Triggeta 3, Tringeta 3, Athens 117 45

Swinging Clubs

Swinging is quite popular in Greece and there are two main clubs in Athens that cater for couples and singles looking to join in the lifestyle.

2 Plus 2
Dervenakion 18, Piraeus, Athens

Situated about 10km to the west of the city centre, 2 Plus 2 is located in the port town of Piraeus.

Owned by a Greek-German, the club is considered one of the best in the country and is a good size. The main space is a large bar with plenty of seating and a big dance floor. There are lots of play spaces with comfortable beds and facilities, all of which are modern, clean and well maintained.

The venue can host up to 100 people with the majority of guests being aged between 30 and 50.

Single men are invited to the club on Thursday and Sundays only.

2Plus2 is open as follows with prices and themed evenings detailed:

Thursday and Sunday: 23.00 to 05.00 – €20 incl. 2 free drinks – Cuckold Night
Friday €20 incl. 2 free drinks – Easy Meet event
Saturday 23.00 to 06.00 – €30 incl. 2 free drinks – Event night
Women go free on Thursday and Sundays

Nirvana Swingers Club
Archanon 335 & Nirvana Street, Athens 111 45

A club for open-minded couples, Nirvana has been open since 2006.

The venue is more like a nightclub than a swingers club and has a dance floor and loud music to create a charged atmosphere. Unlike a standard nightclub, Nirvana has a darkroom for couples to explore each other on site.

There is also a second ‘club within a club’ above Nirvana called the Bikini Room. This area extends the playtime after the Nirvana bar has closed. It has gloryholes, a group play zone with huge bed and shower facilities. A giant TV screens pornography to maintain an erotic ambience throughout the evening.

Nirvana is open Thursday to Sunday from 11.00pm.

Erotic Massage Parlours

Due to the profusion of licensed studios and brothels for sex, erotic massage parlours tend not to provide full service. Unlike other European countries where massage parlours exist to provide a legitimate front for sex work, these establishments often just provide a massage treatment with some element of happy ending. This could be a tantric and erotic body rub or a specialist service such as prostate, nuru or lingham.

BDSM

Athens has quite a few specialist escorts who can provide a BDSM experience as an out-call to your hotel. If you are looking for a specialist dungeon experience then you can always try the SaMe Place or Dungeon Limit Up.

Each has their own resident mistresses as well as plenty of custom built sex furniture.

Appointments are by booking only.

Strip Clubs

For such a small city Athens has a huge number of strip clubs with most offering topless shows, table and lap dancing.

Athens operates a ‘champagne system’ whereby the girls spend time with you in exchange for you buying drinks. Of course, the drinks are at inflated prices so be prepared to face a big bar bill.

Caissa
Sygrou 237, Nea Smirni 171 21

The Caissa is a modern strip club situated about 7km to the south west of the city in an area known as Nea Smirni. There is a full programme of entertainment including some kinky live shows and nude dancing.

Previously known as the ‘Cotton Club Sex Theatre’, the Caissa has a good reputation with an average rating of 4.3 out of 5 on Google from a total of 43 reviews. However, there are some visitors who seem to have fallen foul of the ‘champagne’ drinks system who have given the club a poor rating.

Drinks prices start from €10 but many are priced at €30 and above so be wary of what you order particularly if you are buying a drink for one of the dancers.

The Caissa is open daily from 9.00pm to 6.00am (7.00am on Friday and Saturday nights).

Anatoli
Sygrou 316, Kallithea 176 73

Situated directly opposite the Caissa, Anatolia is a live strip show theatre in the suburbs of Athens.

Like the Caissa, it does have a reputation for being pricey when it comes to the drinks so just be aware of what you are ordering to avoid a shock when it comes to paying the bill. Otherwise, Anatolia has some attractive dancers that can really put on a show.

Anatolia is open seven days a week from 10.30pm to 6.00am.

Kinky Opera
Sygrou 154, Kallithea 176 71

Situated on the same road as the previous two clubs but about 1km closer to the city is Athens’ first modern-day, erotic theatre, the Kinky Opera. They offer a free taxi service to pick you up from your hotel as well as limousine hire for any special events.

They offer a good range of erotic and kinky shows with talented pole dancers and the girls don’t have a reputation for being too pushy.

The venue is stylish and modern with a great bar and lounge area.

The Kinky Opera is open daily from 10.00pm to 7.00am.

Alcatraz
Leof. Andrea Siggrou 137, Nea Smirni 171 21

Further on up the same road and you will find, Alcatraz, a mixed gender erotic dance club. A selection of male and female dancers perform sexy routines on stage and are also available for private dances.

Most of the women here are Russian or Eastern European so don’t expect to see many Greek goddesses on stage.

Drinks are, again, pricey with typical costs being around €30. Dances also don’t come cheap and a nude one-to-one performance will cost €100.

Alcatraz is open daily from 9.00pm to 7.00am.

Toys
Triptolemou 12 Athens, 118 54

Also known as the Toy Room, this strip club is a few minutes’ walk from the Kerameikos metro station in the heart of the capital.

Opened in 2017, it’s an elegant club with a modern design and is well-liked by locals as well as tourists. They do operate a ‘champagne’ style system so bottles are about €70 but you can get a beer for €10.

Guests can enjoy a free strip tease with their first drink as well as take advantage of their daily drinks specials.

Toys is open daily from 11.00pm and closes at 4.00am (6.00am on Saturday nights).

Athens Queens
Leof. Athinon 250, Chaidari 124 61

Highlights of the weekly entertainment include the live sex show featuring Greek porn stars Inna and Teo. Inna also stars in the lesbian show as well as taking part in the daily dildo show.

It’s one of the more famous clubs in Greece and has a long history for providing great service and some good-looking performers.

The Athens Queens is open daily from 11.00pm to 5.00am.

F.B.I. Club
Michalakopoulou 52, Athens 115 28

The ‘Female Body Inspectors’ Club is another popular city strip club not far from the Athens Concert Hall.

It’s an open and bright club with a strong reputation for offering a superb night out. The dance track is one of the biggest in the city and there are non-stop performances from some premium erotic dancers.
The club operates a taxi pick-up service as well as limousine hire.

This venue is open daily from 10.00pm to 7.00am.

Street Prostitutes
Street prostitution in Athens is quite high profile even though soliciting itself is not legal. Working girls can often be found walking the streets around the city’s main red light area, known as Fylis.

The area around the Metaxourghio metro station is also considered a red light area as is Syggrou Avenue. The latter is home to a lot of strip clubs.

Sex Shops

There are dozens of sex shops in Athens earning it a reputation for being a ‘sexcropolis’. Most sell a basic range of bedroom basics and sexy accessories but some specialise in more niche items.

The principle shops selling the best range of sex toys in Athens are:
